Fair Isle seabird studies 1998
Seabirds are one of the more important components of this environment and the UK has internationally important populations of several species. The JNCC's Seabird Monitoring Programme has been designed to assess population changes and breeding success of selected species of seabirds at a range of colonies. In addition, selected 'key site' colonies have been targeted for more detailed monitoring of breeding performance, annual survival rates and feeding ecology. These sites are geographically spread in order to give as full a coverage as possible of British waters. Fair Isle is a very suitable site in northern Britain, situated between the two important archipelagos of Orkney and Shetland - JNCC Report
