History of the American West, 1860-1920: Photographs from the Collection of the Denver Public Library
The History of the American West web site, part of the Library of Congress (LC) American Memory Historical Collections, provides access to more than 30,000 historical photographs that illustrate various aspects of daily life in Colorado and the West from 1860 to 1920. In particular, the collection emphasizes Native American cultures west of the Mississippi and the role of mining in the region. The collection - drawn from the photography collection of the Denver Public Library - can be browsed by subject and name, or searched by keyword. Each digitized image includes bibliographic data such as the photographer's name, date of creation/publication, a summary of the subject, and additional notes. The site also provides detailed information about the collection and on ordering reproductions, as well as links to special presentations, biographies of selected western photographers, and related LC and American Memory resources.
