Trust for African Rock Art
Africa has some of the richest and oldest concentrations of rock paintings and engravings in the world. The Trust for African Rock Art (TARA), based in Nairobi, Kenya, was founded in 1996 to "create greater global awareness of the importance and endangered state of African rock art; survey sites; monitor status; be an information resource and archive; and promote and support rock art conservation measures." The TARA web site presents an overview of rock art in Africa, including its history, significance, and placement on the World Heritage (UNESCO) and World Monuments Watch lists. In addition, the site provides further information on the organization, its funders, executive and advisory boards, staff, strategic plan, code of conduct, and other activities. It also offers related news and events, downloadable newsletters and small publications, worldwide links to relevant articles and rock art bodies, and several other resources of interest.
