World Tables of Economic and Social Indicators, 1950-1981

This dataset contains country level economic and social measures for 183 countries from 1950-1981. World Bank World Development Indicators, from 1960 to present is also available via a web-based service using Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server. This can be accessed from the ESDS International web site and is freely available to users within UK further or higher education via Athens authentication and ESDS online registration Main Topics:The first file (World Tables) contains, where available: population; national accounts and price data for 1950, 1955, 1960 through 1977; data on external trade for 1962, 1965, 1970, and 1977; data on balance of payments, debt, central government finance and trade indices for 1970-1977; and social data for 1960, 1970 and (estimated) 1977. More specifically, the groupings include: GDP by industrial origin and expenditures in constant local prices and current local prices; population, exchange rates and indices; balance of payments and external debt (US dollars); central government finance in local currency; social indicators and external trade. The second file (World Tables 1982 Update) contains data on national accounts, prices, exchange rates and population for 1960-1981. The groupings include: GDP by industrial origin as well as expenditure in current local prices and constant local prices; area, population, exchange rates, and indices and savings. The World Tables file consists of 38626 records which contain 213 economic and social indicators (variables) organized by country by year with a logical record length of 572. The World Tables 1982 Update second file consists of 11328 records which contain 64 economic and social indicators (variables) also organized by country with a logical record of 452. Each record contains time series data for one country and one indicator. A more recent version of this data collection is available under a separate study number. The 1950-1981 dataset is being retained because it may contain variables not provided in more up-to-date releases of the study.
