How to Get Results with BiologyBrowser

Combining Keywords

For best results choose your keywords wisely. Try to make search terms as specific as possible. Keywords are not case-sensitive; "america" and "America" will find the same results.

Tip:

a search for "biodiversity" and "America" will only find resources where those words are specifically mentioned.
If “USA” or “United States of America” is more appropriate to your search, use those terms in preference.

Boolean Searching

BiologyBrowser returns pages that include all search terms (no need to include "and" between terms).

However, certain common connective words, such as "in", "of", "to", "for", "where" etc., are ignored by our search engine.

Tip:

if a common word is essential to your search, try putting a "+" sign before it

Broaden/Refine Your Search

There are many ways to enhance your search on BiologyBrowser.

To increase the number of results, try truncating some/all of your search-terms (using the asterisk * character).

Tip:

to find results including entomology, entomological, society, societies etc.

To restrict your search to more relevant results, try one of the following :

(this will retrieve results containing the terms “biodiversity” and “america” and where “usa” is also mentioned)

( this will find all BiologyBrowser links to webpages on the Natural History Museum, London web site)
