The purpose of this data collection was to provide a more accurate measure the racial/ethnic enrollment in postsecondary institutions in the United States. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) collects racial/ethnic enrollment data from higher education institutions on a biennial basis. Some institutions do not report this data, and their "unknown" categories have previously been distributed in direct proportion to the "knowns." This resulted in lower than accurate figures for the racial/ethnic categories.

This collection offers data on basic characteristics of postsecondary institutions in the United States and covers institutional characteristics for 1989-1990. The data were used for sample design and selection for other IPEDS surveys. Key data elements include the name, address, and telephone number of the institution as well as information about levels of course offerings, calendar system, admissions requirements, student services, accreditation, modes of instruction, and institutional eligibility for student financial aid programs.

This data collection presents information on the number of credit/contact hours and the unduplicated count of students enrolled in postsecondary institutions during the academic year 1987-1988. The credit/contact hours can be used to calculate full-time-equivalent enrollment. The unduplicated head count provides information at the institutional level on the number of different individuals enrolled during the year. Variables include number of full-time undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The unit of analysis is the institution.

Public Law 94-171, enacted in 1975, requires the Census Bureau to provide redistricting data in a format requested by state governments. Within one year following the Decennial Census (by April 1, 1991), the Census Bureau must provide the governor and legislature of each state with the population data needed to redraw legislative districts.

This data collection contains economic and social indicators for 136 countries. Included are economic variables such as gross national product, gross domestic product, value added in agriculture, industry, manufacturing, and services, value of imports and exports, private consumption, government consumption, gross national savings, gross domestic savings, government deficit or surplus, net direct foreign investment, repayments of long-term loans, public long-term debt, international reserves excluding gold, and gold holdings at London market price.

This study provides employment estimates for a number of different fields. Using Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) designations and an aggregate of the SIC codes, data are presented by county and Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) economic regions, which are aggregates of counties. The BEA economic regions data files are categorized further by Metropolitan Statistical Areas and non-Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Industrial categories covered include agricultural services, eating and drinking places, and health services.

The Census Bureau has created a special subset file from the 1980 Census of Population and Housing data designed to meet the needs of Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action planning. It contains detailed 1980 Census data dealing with occupation and educational attainment for the civilian labor force, various race groups, and the Hispanic population. The collection contains two tabulations of the United States civilian labor force: one offering detailed occupation data and the other, data on years of school completed.

These data are from the 20-, 15-, and 5-percent samples of the 1970 United States Census of Population and Housing, and contain population characteristics such as education, occupation, income, citizenship, and vocational training. Separate tallies are shown for whites, Blacks, Hispanic Americans (referred to as Spanish Americans in the 1970 Census), and the total population. The unit of observation for these data files is the census tract. There is one file for each of 48 states and the District of Columbia.

This compilation of data, which was gathered from a variety of federal agencies and private organizations, provides information for the United States as a whole, the 50 states and the District of Columbia, and all 3,139 counties and county equivalents (defined as of January 1, 1983).

These time series present combined statistics on detailed revenues and expenditures for all levels of government. Topics covered include deficit/surplus or total financing, revenues or grants, expenditures, lending minus repayments, domestic financing, foreign financing, domestic debt or total debt, and foreign debt.
