The Houston Area Survey is a longitudinal study that began in May 1982 after Houston recovered from recession of the mid-1980s. The overall purpose of this research was to measure systematically the public responses to the new economic, educational, and environmental challenges, and to make the findings of this continuing project readily available to civic and business leaders, to the general public, and to research scholars.

The AsiaBarometer, 2004 represents a cross-national effort to study the lives of the peoples of East and Southeast Asia on physical, psychological, and sociological dimensions. The project was designed to capture the extent to which respondents experience the affective and cognitive qualities of life, focusing on their assessments of their own lives as well as their relationships to family, neighborhood, workplace, social institutions, political institutions, and the marketplace.

The ongoing Consumer Expenditure Survey (CES) provides a continuous flow of information on the buying habits of American consumers and also furnishes data to support periodic revisions of the Consumer Price Index.

This collection contains two ZIP archives with 67 tables derived from the Census of Population and Housing, 2000, Summary File 4, Table PCT44 (see ICPSR studies 13512 through 13563). The first archive comprises 17 tables that show the voting-age population and voting-age citizen population, by sex, race, and Hispanic origin, for the United States and the 50 states. The second archive contains 50 tables that show the total voting-age population and voting-age citizen population for the 50 states and their counties.

A set of interviewer impressions was completed by the interviewer at the end of each interview with a young adult (YA). In each, the interviewer was asked to rate YA behavior during the interview, the likelihood of the YA participating next year, difficulty in locating the YA next year, whether difficulties communicating hindered the interview, and problems with the interview, including the presence of others or the YA's understanding of the questions. There is also an assessment of the type of dwelling unit for which the interviewer rated both the interior and exterior of the home.

A set of interviewer impressions was completed by the interviewer at the end of each interview with a primary caregiver (PC). In each, the interviewer was asked to rate PC behavior during the interview, the likelihood of the PC participating next year, and difficulty in locating the PC next year, whether difficulties communicating hindered the interview, and problems with the interview, including the presence of others, general problems, or the PC's understanding of the questions. There is also an assessment of the type of dwelling unit.

The researchers collected data on land use, residential housing, commercial industrial buildings, drinking establishments, recreational facilities, street conditions, the number of security persons, children, and teenagers visible, traffic, the physical condition of buildings, cigarette and cigars on the street or in the gutter, garbage, litter on the street or sidewalk, empty beer bottles visible on the street, tagging graffiti, graffiti painted over, gang graffiti, abandoned cars, condoms on the sidewalk, needles and syringes on the sidewalk, and political message graffiti.

Prepared by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, the block group subset was extracted from the Census of Population and Housing, 2000, Summary File 3 (SF3). The SF3 data contain information compiled from the questions asked of a sample of persons and housing units enumerated in Census 2000.
