Carried out under the auspices of the Data Development for International Research (DDIR) project, Polity II was designed to develop longnitudinal indicators of political structures and regime change. This file encompasses most member states of the international system from 1800 to 1986 and consists of annual codings of regimes' structural characteristics, institutional changes, and the directionality of changes on underlying dimensions of democracy, autocracy, and power concentration.

The purpose of this study is to establish how far cooperative strategies in international politics can increase the prospects for international peace. This dataset was developed to introduce students to cross-national political data analysis. Main Topics: Cross-sectional data are available in the form of 72 variables for 108 nations. Time series data are available in the form of 12 variables for 60 nations, 1919-1939.

This study contains data for 428 new polities (all polities that developed after a major change in the old polity). Main Topics: Variables Variables include 11 identification variables, 28 variables defining origin and character of polity at its origin and termination, 31 calculated scores for polity characteristics, and 14 generated variables defining characteristics of polities.

Afghan Women's Resistance and Struggle in Afghanistan and Diasporic Communities, 2004-2005 aimed to develop a better understanding of Afghan women's resistance to war and violent conflicts; their engagement with multiple worlds as refugees or living in exile, their struggle for survival and/or their acquisition of new knowledge and power.

The Eurobarometer (EB) survey series is a unique programme of cross-national and cross-temporal comparative social science research. Since the early seventies representative national samples in all European Union (EU) (formerly the European Community (EC)) member states have been simultaneously interviewed in the spring and autumn of each year. Starting with EB 34.1 (autumn 1990), separate supplementary surveys on special issues have been conducted under almost every EB number.

The United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database (UN Comtrade) contains detailed imports and exports statistics reported by statistical authorities of close to 200 countries or areas. It concerns annual trade data from 1962 to the most recent year. UN Comtrade is considered the most comprehensive trade database available with more than 1.1 billion records. A typical record is, for instance, the exports of cars from Germany to the United States in 2004 in terms of value (US dollars), weight and supplementary quantity (number of cars). The database is continuously updated.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Economic Outlook (WEO) database contains selected macroeconomic data series from the statistical appendix of the World Economic Outlook report, which presents the IMF staff's analysis and projections of economic developments at the global level, in major country groups and in many individual countries.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Government Finance Statistics (GFS) database provides current and internationally comparable annual time series data on the finances and fiscal policies of IMF member governments from 1972 onwards. Topics covered include:

• revenues or grants, expenditures
• lending minus repayments
• domestic financing
• foreign financing
• domestic debt or total debt, and foreign debt
