This survey of New York City residents centers on the 1985 cruise ship hijacking in which one American passenger was killed. Respondents were asked if they approved of the handling of the situation by President Reagan and the Egyptian government, if the United States should attempt to seize the hijackers in order to bring them to justice, and if they thought Egypt knew an American had been killed before agreeing to release the hijackers.

This survey of New York City residents centers on the June 14, 1985 hijacking of a TWA plane by Arab terrorists. Respondents were asked if they approved of Ronald Reagan's handling of the hostage situation, if the United States should be negotiating for the release of the hostages, and if the United States should request Israel to meet the terrorists' demands for the release of Shiite Moslems being held prisoner.

These seven datasets are part of an ongoing data collection effort in which The New York Times and CBS News are equal partners. Each survey includes questions about President Ronald Reagan's performance in office, especially with respect to economic and foreign affairs. In addition, each survey provides information on respondents' views concerning other social and political issues, as well as respondents' personal backgrounds. The surveys were conducted in January, April, June, September (twice), and October (twice).

This dataset contains country level economic and social measures for 183 countries. Part 1, World Tables (1980 File), contains, where available, measures of (1)population, (2)national accounts and price data for 1950, 1955, 1960 through 1977, (3)data on external trade for 1962, 1965, 1970, and 1977, (4)data on balance of payments, debt, central government finance and trade indices for 1970-1977, and (5)social data for 1960, 1970, and (estimated) 1977.

This file contains national-level data concerning female/male differentials over a range of demographic and socioeconomic variables for each of 120 developing countries. Breakdowns by age and urban/rural residence are frequently included. Data were drawn primarily from censuses and reliable surveys, and constitute the most recently available information at the time of collection. The 120 countries included in the file are all recipients of Agency for International Development aid.

This file contains national-level data concerning female/male differentials over a range of demographic and socioeconomic variables for each of 69 developing countries. Breakdowns by age and urban/rural residence were frequently included. Data were drawn primarily from censuses and reliable surveys, and constitute the most recently available information at the time of collection. The 69 countries included in the file were all Agency for International Development recipients. Nine countries from Asia are included, 14 in Latin America, 36 in Africa, and 10 in the Near East.

This two-part data collection contains annual information for military expenditures and import and export of arms and military equipment for 145 countries for the period 1969-1978. Data are provided on arms exports and imports, total imports and exports, arms imports and exports as a percentage of the total imports and exports, the gross national product (GNP), and central government expenditures, as well as expenditures on health, education, and the military as a percentage of the GNP, and health and education expenditures as a percentage of military expenditures.

This collection was created by the United Nations from information collected from individual countries regarding their industrial production. The collection contains, for each reporting country, data on the type and amount of industrial production for the years 1963-1979. There are statistics on production for various industries including mining, manufacturing, construction, financing, and community and personal services. Production quantities are indicated in the basic units of that particular industry (e.g., number, man-hours, kilowatt hours, etc.).

This data collection contains energy commodity production statistics for approximately 200 United Nations reporting countries for the years 1970-1979. In this file, each record refers to an individual reporting country and the quantity of its various transactions (e.g., production, imports, exports, bunkers, additions to stocks, and capacity) for a given energy commodity in a given year. Only annual data are included.

This data collection contains 12 statistical tables that were published in the HISTORICAL SUPPLEMENT OF THE UNITED NATIONS DEMOGRAPHIC YEARBOOK, issued in 1980 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the publication of the DEMOGRAPHIC YEARBOOK. It presents time series data on population size, age, sex, urban/rural residence, natality, mortality, and nuptiality as well as selected derived measures concerning these components of population change for countries of the world over a 30-year time period. The unit of analysis is ethnic group within a country, by year.
