Variables provide group name (up to three groups), type of terrorist incident (assassination, bombing, facility attack, hijacking, kidnapping, maiming, assault, mass disruption, or arson), incident date (year, month, day of month), region, country, state in the United States (if applicable), city, whether the incident was just outside of the city, the type of target (business, government, police, military, abortion related, airport and airplanes, diplomatic, educational institution, food or water supply, journalists and media, maritime, NGO, private citizens and property, religious figures/ins

The authors estimate the responsiveness of aid to recipient countries' economic and physical needs, civil/political rights, and government effectiveness. They look exclusively at the post-Cold War era and use fixed effects to control for the political, strategic, and other considerations of donors. They find that aid and per capita income have been negatively related, while aid has been positively related to infant mortality, rights, and government effectiveness.

This survey was conducted after the release of Nicholas Daniloff, a reporter who had been held by the Soviet Union on charges of spying. The United States government negotiated his release but denied that there was any connection between his release and the release of Gennadi Zakharov, a Soviet physicist who had been held by the United States on spying charges.

These time series present combined statistics on detailed revenues and expenditures for all levels of government. Topics covered include deficit/surplus or total financing, revenues or grants, expenditures, lending minus repayments, domestic financing, foreign financing, domestic debt or total debt, and foreign debt.

These time series data provide information on the balance of payments among countries and geographical areas of the world.

Each dataset contains questions of topical relevance or questions which pertain to broader social issues. The hijacking of TWA flight 847 was the focus of the first two surveys. Respondents were asked to evaluate Reagan's handling of the crisis, to give their opinions on how the United States should deal with terrorism and terrorists, and to explain their attitudes about United States policy in the Middle East and media coverage of the event. Attitudes towards air safety, including effects on travel plans, were explored in the third survey.

These data were collected in the early part of the primary election season of 1984. Part 1, the February 5th survey, contains items concerning America's role in Lebanon, attention paid to the campaign, evaluations of Reagan and Mondale, likeability of the candidates running for the Democratic nomination, and demographic characteristics of respondents. In part 2, February 12th, respondents were asked about the primary and caucus system for nominating candidates, U.S.

These seven datasets are part of an ongoing data collection effort in which The New York Times and CBS News are equal partners. Each survey includes questions about President Ronald Reagan's performance in office, especially with respect to economic and foreign affairs. In addition, each survey provides information on respondents' views concerning other social and political issues, as well as respondents' personal backgrounds. The surveys were conducted in January, April, June, September (twice), and October (twice).
