This annual survey, fielded August to October 1999, was conducted in over 50 countries to solicit public opinion on social and political issues. Respondents were asked to give their opinion on the environment. Questions included the overall state that the environment is in, if the government has done too much, too little, or just the right amount concerning the environment, and the biggest threat to the environment for future generations.

This dataset covers the years 1990 through 2007 and contains two types of indicators for the global distribution of information, communication and technology (ICT) resources. The data includes gini coefficients for the distribution of Internet access within countries, and a technology diffusion index that weights the distribution of broadband subscribers, personal computers, mobile phones, Internet users, and international Internet bandwidth by economic output. The data are secondary source data, based on the analysis of primary data from 204 surveys fielded in 47 countries.

Variables provide group name (up to three groups), type of terrorist incident (assassination, bombing, facility attack, hijacking, kidnapping, maiming, assault, mass disruption, or arson), incident date (year, month, day of month), region, country, state in the United States (if applicable), city, whether the incident was just outside of the city, the type of target (business, government, police, military, abortion related, airport and airplanes, diplomatic, educational institution, food or water supply, journalists and media, maritime, NGO, private citizens and property, religious figures/ins

This annual survey, fielded June to October 2007, was conducted in over 60 countries to solicit public opinion on social and political issues. Respondents were asked whether their country was governed by the will of the people, whether its elections were free and fair, and whether democracy was the best system of government. The survey also asked for the respondents' attitudes about their society and their personal political leaning.

This annual survey, fielded July to September 2006, was conducted in over 60 countries to solicit public opinion on social and political issues. Respondents were asked for their opinions about globalization, their opinions about several countries, and whether they would like to live in those countries. The survey also asked the respondents about the United States' involvement in the fight against terrorism and about other issues such as the growth of the world economy.

The authors estimate the responsiveness of aid to recipient countries' economic and physical needs, civil/political rights, and government effectiveness. They look exclusively at the post-Cold War era and use fixed effects to control for the political, strategic, and other considerations of donors. They find that aid and per capita income have been negatively related, while aid has been positively related to infant mortality, rights, and government effectiveness.

This data collection is a general survey of drug problems in the United States. Topics covered include national efforts to combat drug problems, neighborhood drug sales, testing students and workers for drugs, treatment of those convicted of drug offenses, sending troops to Colombia to fight drug trafficking, arrest policies for drug use and other crimes in inner cities, and treatment of individuals by the court system. The survey also asked about views on homeless people and spending for AIDS treatment.

This survey focused on the United States military action in Panama. Respondents were asked if they approved of the way President George Bush was handling the situation, if they approved of the United States' having sent military forces to overthrow Manuel Noriega, if they would still approve if the action resulted in a large number of Panamanian civilian casualties, if the reasons Bush had given for invading Panama were good enough to warrant the action, and if sending military forces into Panama to overthrow Noriega was legal under United States law.

This data collection contains economic and social indicators for 136 countries. Included are economic variables such as gross national product, gross domestic product, value added in agriculture, industry, manufacturing, and services, value of imports and exports, private consumption, government consumption, gross national savings, gross domestic savings, government deficit or surplus, net direct foreign investment, repayments of long-term loans, public long-term debt, international reserves excluding gold, and gold holdings at London market price.
