The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) was designed to capture various aspects of firm creation and entrepreneurship across countries. The data have been collected over a number of years (1998-2003) and include responses from 4,685 experts in over 38 countries and three subnational regions. This study seeks to measure the national attributes considered critical for new firm births and small firm growth. The dataset is a harmonized file capturing the results from all of the surveys.

The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) was designed to capture various aspects of firm creation and entrepreneurship across countries. The data have been collected over the course of 6 years (1998-2003) and includes responses from individuals in over 40 countries. The data were gathered from 138 separate surveys. This dataset is a harmonized file capturing the results from all of the surveys. Respondents were queried on the following main topics: general entrepreneurship, start-up activities, ownership and management of the firm, and business angels (angel investors).

This survey was undertaken in 1988 and 1992 to compare crime rates for industrialized countries and to assess national crime problems by providing a crime index independent of police statistics. Fifteen countries participated in the 1988 survey, and 13 countries were included in 1992. A standardized survey instrument was employed, with Japan, Czechoslovakia, and Poland using questionnaires and sampling methods that varied slightly from the rest.

The October 1974 Scottish cross-section is part of a continuing series of surveys of the British electorate, begun by David Butler and Donald Stokes at Nuffield College, Oxford, in 1963, and continued at the University of Essex. Respondents were interviewed between October 15, 1974 and January 20, 1975. Some of the respondents had been interviewed in the February 1974 cross-section or in the October 1974 cross-section, but the majority of respondents were first interviewed in the Scottish cross-section.

These data are a collection of demographic statistics for the populations of 125 countries or areas throughout the world, prepared by the Statistical Office of the United Nations. The units of analysis are both country and data year. The primary source of data is a set of questionnaires sent monthly and annually to national statistical services and other appropriate government offices. Data include statistics on approximately 50 types of causes of death for the years 1966 through 1974 for males, females, and total populations.

This data collection contains demographic statistics for the populations of 171 countries or areas throughout the world between 1966 and 1974. The data were prepared by the Statistical Office of the United Nations using as primary source a set of questionnaires sent monthly and annually to statistical services and other appropriate government offices. Data include total population by country or area for the years 1966-1974, for males and females, divided into 18 age groups. Other data include ethnic group, urban/rural code, and year, type, and reliability of source document.

This dataset contains census, election, and vital statistics data for 118 British and Irish counties for the period 1851 to 1966. The information was collected for use in a study of regional integration and development in Great Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries. Included are population indicators for each of the counties recorded at 11 points in time during the 115-year span (i.e., 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901, 1911, 1921, 1931, 1951, and 1961).

The data consist of a national cross-section of the electorate in England, Scotland, and Wales who were first interviewed in 1969 (1,114 respondents). Of these, 792 were reinterviewed in 1970, and 1,093 new respondents were added to the 1969-1970 panel to create a representative electorate sample for the second wave. Questions were asked about political interest, involvement in political activities, and mass media usage as a political news source.

This Workplace Ethnography project generated content-coded data from the full population of book-length English language organizational ethnographies. Drawn from Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Israel, Japan, Norway, the Philippines, Scotland, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, United States, and Zambia, these ethnographies provided deep descriptions on a wide range of topics, such as worker behavior, management behavior, coworker relations, labor process, conflict and resistance, citizenship behavior, emotional labor, and sexual harassment.

The International Crime Victim Survey (ICVS) is a far-reaching program of fully standardized surveys investigating householders' experience of crime in different countries. The data were collected in four waves: 1989, 1992, 1996, and 2000. The main focus of the ICVS is whether the respondent was a victim of theft of or from vehicles, other thefts, vandalism, robbery, pickpocketing, sexual harassment or violence, or assault.
