This dataset contains the names that correspond with the 1990 Census high-level geographic area codes contained in the Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing System, or TIGER/Line files. Included are the record type, defining code(s), and name for each geographic entity.

This collection provides 100-percent data for states and their subareas in hierarchical sequence down to the block level. Also included are complete summaries for places, census tract/block numbering areas, block groups, consolidated cities, Alaska Native Regional Corporation, state portion of Metropolitan Statistical Area/Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA/CMSA), and state portion of Urbanized Area. Population items include age, race, sex, marital status, Hispanic origin, household type, and household relationship.

For this data collection, interviews were conducted with voters in 42 states as they left their polling places on election day, November 6, 1990. Respondents were asked a series of questions about their vote choices in the senate, congressional, and gubernatorial races (as appropriate to their state), and the issues and factors that most influenced those votes. Respondents were also asked if they approved of the way George Bush was handling his job as president, how they voted in the 1988 presidential election, and what their views on abortion were.

This data collection explores the relationship between homicide and ethnicity in California during 1850-1900. The data are presented in three files. Part 1, Homicide, includes information on time, place, location, and cause of the crime for all murder cases in seven California counties. The relationship between the victim and the accused, and the race, sex, age, and occupation of each are also provided. Part 2, Indictment, includes information on criminal charge, plea, verdict, and sentence for all murder trials in the same seven counties during the time period.

Offender Based Transaction Statistics (OBTS) studies are designed to collect information by tracking adult offenders from the point of entry into the criminal justice system (typically by arrest) through final disposition, regardless of whether the offender is convicted or acquitted. Information is provided on arrest, police action, prosecutor action, level of charges, charges filed by the prosecutor, type of counsel, pretrial status, type of trial, sentence type, and sentence length.

Public Law 94-171, enacted in 1975, requires the Census Bureau to provide redistricting data in a format requested by state governments. Within one year following the Decennial Census (by April 1, 1991), the Census Bureau must provide the governor and legislature of each state with the population data needed to redraw legislative districts.

This data collection provides information on characteristics of housing units in 11 selected Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) of the United States. Although the unit of analysis is the housing unit rather than its occupants, the survey also is a comprehensive source of information on the demographic characteristics of household residents. Data collected include general housing characteristics such as the year the structure was built, type and number of living quarters, occupancy status, presence of commercial establishments on the property, and property value.

The National Consortium for Assessing Drug Control Initiatives, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and coordinated by the Criminal Justice Statistics Association, collected drug offender processing data from eight states: Alaska, California, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, and Virginia. The purpose of the project was to track adult drug offenders from the point of entry into the criminal justice system (typically by arrest) through final court disposition, regardless of whether the offender was released without trial, acquitted, or convicted.

These data measure the effects of blood alcohol content coupled with officer reports at the time of arrest on driving while intoxicated (DWI) case outcomes (jury verdicts and guilty pleas). Court records and relevant police reports for drunk-driving cases drawn from the greater metropolitan areas of Boston, Denver, and Los Angeles were compiled to produce this data collection. Cases were selected to include roughly equal proportions of guilty pleas, guilty verdicts, and not-guilty verdicts.
